Tutorial: Framed OWH award

Hey! Today’s Tutorial is from our very own Fearless Leader, Sandy! Check this out…

This is a little something you can make to hang up in your craft room to inspire yourself….or give it to a craft store or business in your town as a thank-you for their help. You might also make one as a door prize at your next cardmaking party! This one shown was given to Sandy’s local Post Office.

  • 8×8 shadowbox frame (inexpensive with 40% off coupon at Joanns!)
  • cardstock, designer papers, embellishments
  • photo printer, glossy photo paper (8.5 x 11)
  • dimensional adhesive
  • cuttlebug, embossing folder

For this one, I created a tone-on-tone background, navy blue-on-blue, with the top pieces being embossed using a cuttlebug. The dark blue will allow the photos to really pop. The background piece is 8×8 and the embossed pieces are 3.5 x 3.5.

The center background piece, which will help in lining up the photos, is 5.25 x 5.25. You can mark the center, or even draw lines to help get the pieces on straight and even.

Print the image page; a pdf can be downloaded here, or you can click on the image below once, then right-click on it to save it to your hard drive. Note that if you resize it or print it from a program that changes the size, it may not print the photo block at 5×5, so adjust the square shown here to be 1/4inch bigger than the block you print out. (Yes, there’s lots of white around it, so the full jpg is 8.5 x 11.)

Trim the photo block and images, and put dimensional adhesive on the back of each. Lay them out and adjust placement before removing the backing on the dimensional adhesive.
Layer the logo as well, and pop it on the top of the photos, wherever you’d like it.
Embellish as desired! I added some ribbon and a tiny metal flag. Be sure to let us know if you gave one of these away – and what the reaction was!
