OWHtv Episode 88: Sparkle Creations & a new kind of stump Sandy
Posted by Operation Write Home on Feb 7, 2013 in OWHtv, Stars and Stamps | 13 commentsThis week’s cards all use this cute image called Rainy Day Ruby from our partner at Sparkle Creations – they’re giving us a 15% discount all month long with coupon code Valentine!
This first card is missing a bit of love and affection. Our heroes tell us specifically that they like the nice cards that have layers and embellishments. Yes, they do notice! Clean and simple cards are still welcome, of course, but those are so hard to do well – and with lots of newbies joining us all the time, we always recommend a little layering and detail, because that’s easier for new folks to handle well.

First we have paper piecing. Check out the tutorial here!

This technique is called highlighting, also known as Keyhole Cropping, and we have a tutorial here.
And then of course if your design is strong and striking, a simple black and white image without coloring at all can work well:

But for me – I find it safest to color and embellish! I had a thumbprint show up on the corner of the image so I diecut the oval, and my ribbon covered a tear that I accidentally made in the paper. Embellishments and layers can cover up a myriad of oopses!

See you on next week’s show!

way cool – Thanks for showing so many options!!!!
by the way this is the best hair cut – you look really nice!
Great Video! Love these types of “Stump Sandy”s or the pick a sketch ones. Perhaps you can use hedgie next!
Great show!! I really enjoyed it. I like this version of “Stump Sandy”. . . Sandy, you are inspiring and very infectious. . .I have a couple more days of Girl Scout Cookie madness, then back to crafting and card making. =)
AGH! I don’t remember the last time I won something! So excited! Thank you so much Sandy!
Awesome show Sandy! This method of “Stump Sandy” is terrific – as a seasoned card maker it was fun to hear you think out loud as you reasoned through your choices and to see how many of your choices corresponded with my thoughts and how many went in a totally different direction. It is a great way to learn and to remind us to try something new and different and to stretch ourselves a bit. I loved that you pulled in the red in a very subtle way yet staying true to the blue/brown theme. Wonderful show! Keep doing what you are doing – it’s wonderful!
I like this type of Stump Sandy best and would like to see what you do with the butterfly.
With this image and that message the keyhole cropping technique is just stellar.
It was great to see you talk through the creation of the card – -
Since our 14 year old kitten own our hearts, I’d love to see a card made out of the blue/pink feline!
Thanks!
I prefer the new format for Stump Sandy. I have problems with how to set up images so this new way would really help me. I would like to see you use the butterfly. Thanks for all you do. I love OWH TV.
Although the original versions of Stump Sandy were always hysterical…they aren’t how most of us would typically make a card. This new format is a great way to learn how you pick colors and papers to complement your images….and is much more helpful. I would love to see sketch cards too! Thanks for everything. I learn something every week from you
Great show. I like this Stump Sandy, as someone else the paper ones aren’t what we do so when we learn something new that is great. So sketches, images and I would like to see you use the blue & pink kitty.
Luv when you put together a card and I can hear you think aloud! You always create such beautiful cards so its fun to hear what the process is that you go through! My vote for an image is the cat-he is sooooo fun! What’s the name of that stamp?
Great show! Thanks for all of the ideas using the same stamp on all of the cards. Love the Stump Sandy card. I have been watching OWH TV for some time, and I like the change for the stump card using an image rather than the papers. Your input on color matching and such is so very helpful. I vote for using the images for the Stump Sandy segment, or alternating with the papers too. Would like to see a card using the little girl image you had on the show.
