Once they start writing….

Sandy,

I just wanted to let you know that we received the cards that you sent. Thanks for the picture of PFC Ciara, she is a cute dog. I love how goldies get grey around their eyes and nose.

Please tell the folks who make the cards how much we appreciate them. I know that my friends and family enjoy receiving them. I have to force some of my soldiers (young guys these days) to write home. It is kind of funny with email and facebook, people just don’t send letter often, but I have found once they start writing the card, they usually end up flipping it over to the back or add a sheet of paper to get in all that they wanted to say. I even have guys that have been asking me for cards to send home, so great success.

Take care,

MAJ R.W.

PS I have many letters that my grandparents wrote to each other during WWII and it really gives me insight on how they thought about life and each other. They are some of my most prized possessions. I would rather 60 years from now, my grandchildren read actual letters than sorting through my email.

  1. Gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling on the P.S. I had the same thought as I was reading about the young people – they can always save and read over & over a handwritten letter; more of a treasure.

Awesome, I agree hand written notes are something to treasure always!

  3. That’s beautiful! Saving letters is awesome. Saving an e-mail? Notsomuch. I love it when you get notes like this. Just makes me smile.

  4. This is the incentive I needed to get off the couch and go make some cards!

  5. Now if I could get my son to write to his old mom from Korea….but Skype works for us…at least I can see his face than.

I agree so much with the PS in this thank you note…I love reading the letters my mom and dad wrote to each other while my dad was in service. Email just doesn’t seem to be the same.
Thank you for your service MAJ R.W.
I’m going to make more cards just because I want everyone to have a chance to “write” home and have something to look forward to in the years to come.

  7. We have letter that my Dad wrote home when he was in Korea. It’s what started me sending in cards to OWH.

  8. Awesome!! I love it!!

I still have all my cards and letters from my Army husband from his many deployments and overseas assignments. I don’t have any old text messages or facebook updates! Glad we can help new memories be preserved.

U are doing the correct thing to get the young soldiers to write home. They are so into e-mail,etc.
The young generation don’t know how important it’s to see ur love one writting and read them over and over.
Later their children and themselves will appreciate the letterrs.
Making the cards give me so much joy.
I will be making cards as long as there is a need for them.
