Featured Friday cardmaker: Maude B., Las Cruces, NMPosted by JoAnn on Oct 4, 2013 in Featured Friday Cardmaker, Stars and Stamps | 35 comments
How did it get to be October??? Making matters worse, a friend just told me there were — yikes! — only twelve more weekends until Christmas!
But I’m not going to dwell on that frightening idea right now. Instead I’m going to enjoy introducing you to this week’s Featured Friday cardmaker, Maude B, from Las Cruces, NM! And once again I have some things in common with our highlighted cardmaker: my father-in-law was a math teacher , my husband was a computer math major, and I LOVE pretty paper! Since she doesn’t have a website, please leave some special OWH for her wonderful and eclectic mix of cards here in the comments!
Maude’s intro, in her own words: “I am a retired mathematics teacher married to a retired electronics engineer. We have two sons, who are both married, and have given us two grandsons and a granddaughter. I have done art and craft activities since I was a child so there has always been a creative part to my life. I grew up in southern New Mexico. After I married, my husband and I lived all over the US as his job required; but we returned to NM to stay in 1985.”
How long have you been stamping?
I started stamping when I retired from teaching in 2000. Stamp A Mania had a retail store here at that time, and I took several classes which got me started.
Do you have a craft room or specific area where you stamp?
We have a spare bedroom, and I have commandeered about half of it for my craft area.
What are your favorite stamp/craft products?
I am a big fan of Hero Arts stamps, and I love my die cuts and embossing folders.
Do you have a favorite technique?
I like to try different techniques and learn new ways to do stamping. I love patterned papers. Some women buy shoes/purses; I buy paper. Right now I am using embossing folders and die cuts a lot. I also like to add paper or silk flowers to my cards.
Have any particular OWH sketches or tutorials served as inspiration for your cards?
I often use the weekly sketches and the various tutorials especially when I am stuck for ideas.
Do you prefer digis or stamps?
Stamps!!! I have lots and lots of stamps which meet my needs.
Do you have a favorite theme?
Not really. I enjoy making cards for the various seasons and holidays; and I am always making birthday cards.
Are there colors you love to include in your cards?
I really like most all colors. I use a lot of autumn colors in the fall and pastels in the spring. I love blues and greens and purples any time of the year.
I first heard of OWH in a Readers Reach Out article in CARDMAKER magazine several years ago. I love making cards but always had many more than I could use so I was thrilled to find a place that could use my cards.
What motivates you to make cards for our heroes?
Those heroes do so much to protect our freedoms and way of life that I am honored to be able to do a little something to help them stay in touch with their families and loved ones.
