Featured Friday Card Maker: Angie G, Bel Air MD

Hello everyone! I’m happy to introduce you to cardmaker Angie today…such great cards! I love her layering :). And I love that a simple invitation to a card workshop got her going – same here! Angie blogs at Paper Paws, so go give her a visit and scroll through some of her posts – and follow her on Pinterest too! Now let’s get busy meeting her – and leave her some love on this post! -Sandy

How long have you been stamping/card making?

A little over 10 years now.  A neighbor invited me to a card workshop. The rest, as they say, is history.  I tease her that she created a monster – and I love her for it because we became wonderful friends.

Do you have a craft room or specific area where you stamp/craft?

Yes, a bedroom, but it’s still a work in progress – and sometimes looks like a tornado went through…sigh.  It’s mainly for my card-making.  I also have loads of craft stuff in the basement such as my embroidery machine and related supplies, my hoard of cigar boxes (for my altered cigar box making), and assorted items I’ve gathered for Pinterest-inspired projects I pretend like I’m actually going to make someday.

What are your favorite stamp/craft products?

Oh so many!  I love my Scor Buddy, ATG, most things Stampin’ Up!, embossing folders, doilies, dies, Copics, oh…and I hoard scissors and 6×6 paper stacks 🙂

Do you have a favorite technique?

I am all over the place!

Have any particular OWH sketches or tutorials served as inspiration for your cards?

Yes…I enjoy making Starburst/Sunburst cards and found the tutorial on the OWH website some years ago.  It’s still my go-to tutorial when I want to make that type of card.

Do you prefer digis or stamps?

Definitely stamps.  But I do use some digis for coloring with Copics.

Do you have a favorite theme?

Not really, but I do like to do funny cards whenever possible.

Are there colors you love to include on your cards?

I am a big neutrals fan.  Nevertheless, I try real hard to step out of my box and use all of the colors.

How did you hear about Operation Write Home?

I met and became friends with a group of Maryland stampers I met on the Splitcoaststampers online forums, and I heard about OWH through one or more of those awesome ladies.

What motivates you to make cards for our heroes?
So many reasons. I like to give back.  I am in awe of the sacrifices these fine men and women – and their families – make for all of us.  When I heard about OWH, I knew it would be a win-win situation since, as a card maker, I make a lot of cards and can’t use them all, and our heroes need cards.  Also, as a Gold Star Wife, I will always have a special place in my heart for our heroes.

I want to thank Sandy and everyone who has ever played a part in supporting OWH.  You all rock!

  1. Your cards are just beautiful, Angie! They do make me smile! I really love the last card, with its patriotic stars and wonderful sentiment. It’s a great inspiration to use some of my red, white, and blue patterned papers! Thank you so very much for your family’s service to our country and your support for OWH. ♡

  2. Angie, I love your cards! That owl is just adorable! 🙂

  3. Oh my goodness what wonderful cards. Glad I saw this post before I went to work so I will have a smile on my face all day. I’m trying to get at least 2 more boxes sent before the end. But you have really knocked it out of the park with theses cards!

  4. These cards are fantastic.Loved the ones where you used the punches. Thank you for sharing these.

  5. You know that currently popular expression about “leaning in”? Well I just seriously leaned in to my computer! Great group of cards.

I love love love the owl and the face cards!
What magnificent, clever, and creative ideas for using dies in a different way. I like the highlights on the nose and eyes of the man-little detail with big umph. Wow!

I’m also very drawn to the nuts about you card as that is exactly how I use that embossing folder-to look like metal plating. Yours is better looking! Has real shine to it.
Wish I knew if that was paper, ink or both.

I see I need to work more in burgundy and grey-looks very good- and I like the reverse of the DP in the stars.

Thank you for being a part of OWH. I know people love getting your cards!

    • Margot, thank you for leaving a great comment. On the nuts card, the paper is a semi-shiney silver paper I had in my stash from who-knows-where. After embossing, I did sponge it a little with a darker ink 🙂

  6. I love the bolts you made on that silver card! Clever punch art! Thanks for sharing your creations 🙂

  7. Very handsome masculine cards in “dropping you a line”, “nuts about you” and “made in the USA”. They are all really exceptional guy cards that can be so hard to make. The owl is just adorable. I’m sure you will make many heroes and their families happy with your cards
